But no matter what we do, or how much money we are willing to pay, we cannot make a day last longer than twenty-four hours. On the other hand, when we are unhappy, money cannot make the unhappy time pass away more quickly, nor can it bring us a day without sadness and worries. 有人以为有钱就有一切，就可以买任何别人得不到的东西，所以想尽办法不择手段去取得财富。许多人因此迷失了自己。往往这种人连一个知心朋友也不会有，因为在他们眼里只有自己，他们不相信别人，而在他们身边的人也只会拍他们马屁，奉承他们，使他们越来越失去自我反省的能力。他们看不起穷人，嘲笑他们，表面上看起来大方，花钱如流水，其实却很吝啬，就连施舍一点钱给乞丐也不愿意，这种人为富不仁，最不应该。不过，有钱也可以做很多善事，比如说认养小孩，使他们不再挨饿，帮助贪苦无依的孤儿，建学校、医院、养老院等等。如果能这么做才配做一个“有钱人”。
“有人说有钱就可以买到一切”。显然，逻辑上和意义上看，都是荒谬的，也是荒唐可笑的论调。比如一个白丁买了一张大专文凭，上岗后能用大学知识解决实际的问题吗？能胜任工作吗？可见金钱不是万能的，金钱能买到文凭，但买不到知识，有钱能买到朋友，但买不到友情;有钱能买到老婆，但买不到纯贞的爱情……所以金钱不是万能的。

Money Is Not Everything
There are some people who would do anything for money. There are people who would willingly relinquish their health, entertainment and love, for the sake of money. There are also people who are criminals because of money, who succumb to corruption when facing the great temptation of money. The problem with money is with its omnipotence. Money is the medium for transferring and exchanging such that we could buy almost every other materialistic thing, and bring it in as our own possession. People are enthralled by the ability to possess with money in hand, that instead of controlling the money they have, they are controlled by the money they do not have. Nevertheless, there is one thing all humans should learn: money is not everything.
True happiness is a vague term. A poor man enslaved by money works day and night to earn an extra penny. He works not knowing how many hours he had exhausted himself or how much sweat that had landed on his shirt, but he will probably never know true happiness. On the other hand, a rich man enslaved by money has everything in his backyard. He could buy a pool, loads of shoes, keep up with the latest fashion trend, but he could never taste true happiness. He is clouded and blinded by the possibility of having more money than he already had. This greedy thought will forever haunt him in the rest of his life. Both the poor and the rich cannot taste true happiness when controlled by money. It is by overcoming the temptation money sets on them that they will ever learn happiness.
The fulfillment money brings is often materialistic. You may think a five-star hotel ‘loves’ you more than a three-star hotel because the people there are more friendly and mannerly. They are taught and warned to act as a helpful character in exchange for the money you pay them. Once your money is out of their grasp, it is probable to say that they will not take another look at you. Similarly, you can buy clothes and dishes with money, but you cannot buy relationships. You can pay prostitutes, but they will never love you in a genuine way, the way that cannot be bought with money. The things that stand against the omnipotence of money are love and care. Those things are as vague as the taste of true happiness, but there is one thing I could guarantee you – money cannot buy you love and care, the most they could do is earn you a healthcare service.
