Earth Hour
Earth Hour started in Australia with millions of homes and businesses turning their lights off for one hour. Now it has grown to become one of the world’s biggest climate change initiatives. People are all joining together in a global effort to show that it’s possible to take action on global warming.
Earth Hour has brought about some new changes to our lives. The iconic "Bird’s Nest" National Stadium and the nearby "Water Cube" National Aquatics Center, usually illuminated by floodlights, went dark at 8:30 p.m., while dozens of hotels, office buildings, shopping malls and restaurants also switched some lights off. People join activities such as candle-lit dinners and star-gazing parties as a response to the call for "going dark". Now days, the earth is facing up to great threat of the climate changes. The temperature is turning higher and the level of the sea is rising. We need to stop those bad changes. Let’s turn off the light, fan or other appliances for an hour once a week, which will save the energy. I
Earth Hour, an annual international event held on the last Saturday of March, asks people to turn off their lights from 8.30 to 9.30 pm of the local time. Its purpose is to raise people’s awareness of the environmental protection and the climate change. Earth Hour first began in Sydney in 2007 and after that, it spread around the world at an amazing speed. This year, more than 4,000 cities from 90 countries and about one billion people from the world have joined Earth Hour.
