The tempo of modern civilization has been much quickened in the last twenty years. While witnessing the dramatic changes in the better-off society, people begin to reconsider the question of "survival". "Survival" in the old sense does not bother us anymore. Instead, we are more concerned about how to "survive" in the human world full of competition.
Competition always carries abreast challenges and opportunities to everyone involved. It might appear in an entrance exam, in a regular class, or in a small public speech. Those who fail to detect its real nature-whether an opportunity or a challenge a competition really is- will lose something more or less conducive to our growth. Of course, if we take the competition as an opportunity, we will favor it intentionally because they can help us outstand from the average; they will make us become the focus of public attention; they will grant us more chances and rights to succeed. As a matter of fact, opportunities are supposed to be more perceptible and welcoming than challenges. The truth is, however, we will lose more opportunities when we choose to take the "opportunity" fork at the crossroads. The other fork, ignored by us and defined as "fearful challenges", offers much more chances for the walker in competition.
We have such an inclination in life to overestimate ourselves and hold a thoughtless attitude towards the negative outlook of things.
We believe in the old saying, "Opportunity knocks but just once," so we always welcome it and devote all our spirit and efforts to it. The most devout believer of this saying are the graduates. Why? There are quite a number of them who pay full attention to positions in big cities and are willing to flood into developed areas under any circumstances, even though there will be too much uncertainty for their choices. Innumerable cases go straight to the same miserable end: God seems to refuse to help too many of His worshipers.
In conclusion, to define the quality of competition seems to be far from valuable sense, for no matter what a competition is, an opportunity or a challenge, it will create nutritious elements for our growth.

Every obstacle can be turned into an opportunity, if one has the right attitude or perspective. People with this attitude are buoyant, not easily discouraged, and welcome challenges and adversity. One personal example took place in sixth grade, when I broke my hand by falling off my bicycle. The doctor had to put it into a cast.
The cast was a real obstacle. It was on my right hand, the one I write with. It looked like homework would be impossible! But I learned to type with one hand, and I did my English and social studies work on the typewrite. My mom helped me by writing out my math homework based on answers I gave her. The expe-rience sure helped my typing! It also made me learn the value of work, and gave me a chance to really learn to appreciate my mother.
In addition, having the cast was an excuse to improve my basketball game. I was a decent player, but most comfortable with my right hand. But with the cast on I was forced to practice dribbling with my left hand, and now I can go either way.
Finally, there was one other unexpected benefit. In art class, I was never good. But one day, with my hand still in the cast, I tried drawing with my left hand. To my surprise, I was much better at it than before! The cast is long gone, but I still draw left-handed and am really quite good at it. Maybe I’d never have know about this ability if hadn’t made my obstacle in to my opportunity.

Greater interconnectedness among the world’s people seems to promise a “global village” in which the destructive antagonisms of the past can be left behind, replaced by global cooperation and enriching diversity. Global markets offer grater opportunity of people to tap into more and large markets around the world. It means that they can have access to more capital flows, technology, cheaper imports, and larger export markets. As globalization has progressed, living standards, particularly when measured by broader indicators of well-being, have improved significantly in virtually all countries.
But the actual experience of globalization has not fulfilled such promise as above. Instead, it has given us more poor people than the world has ever know and increased threats to the environmental conditions on which humans life itself depends. It has led many to fear the loss of hard-won social and environmental protections and even of meaningful self-government. And the markets do not necessarily ensure that the benefits of increased efficiency are shared by all. Also the strongest gains have been made by the advanced countries and only some of the developing countries.
Globalization is both irreversible and, in its present form, unsustainable. What will come after it is far from determined. Countries must be prepared to embrace the policies needed, and in the case of the poorest counties may need the support of the international community as the do so.
