It is the 70th anniversary of both the world's anti-fascism war and the victory of China's Resistance War against Japanese Aggression this year. The Chinese people finally achieved the great victory of the anti-fascist war of the world after an everlasting bloody battle for 14 years. They made a great contribution for the protection of human civilization and the dependence of the world peace. China hopes to review history and look forward to the future together with its allies. To insist on remembering the history and the promise of never to fight will be their common goal.

The Second World War was a global conflict that originated in two distinct theaters of war. The Second Sino-Japanese War, which began in 1937, and the Invasion of Poland in 1939 marked the commencement of hostilities in Asia and Europe, respectively. This war divided nations into two major alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was a devastating conflict, resulting in the tragic loss of over 60 million lives, approximately half of which were Soviet citizens, making it the deadliest war in human history.

The scope of World War II was unprecedented, with countries around the world mobilizing over 100 million military personnel. It was a total war, where the lines between civilian and military life were blurred, and entire nations were mobilized to support the war effort. The war's impact was felt deeply, with nearly two-thirds of the casualties being civilians. The Holocaust, specifically in Eastern Europe, was a horrific example of systematic genocide, resulting in the deaths of nearly 11 million people, including six million Jews who were also targeted by the Nazis.

The war concluded with an Allied victory, reshaping the global order. The United States and the Soviet Union emerged as the two leading superpowers, setting the stage for the Cold War, which would define international relations for the next four and a half decades. The war also sparked movements for self-determination and independence in Africa and Asia, leading to the decolonization of these regions. In Europe, the war laid the groundwork for the path towards integration.

War and Peace

Generally, war is repugnant, but peace is welcome. While peace is the ultimate goal of all of our undertaking in this world, war has been inevitable in the course of human civilization. Does man have an innate taste for war? Or is it just an acquired scheme learned from human society? We only know that there hasn't been any period in the history during which the world was really at peace. Human beings pursue peace and prosperity through the establishment of families, communities, and nations. Why should we let all these be destroyed by wars?

To reduce the possibility of war to the lowest extent, I have two suggestions. First of all, education should be consolidated to eliminate the brutality and beastliness in human nature. Knowledge derives from education and is a surer road to wisdom. Wisdom enables us to distinguish right from wrong. I also teaches us restraint and tolerance, two effective means of preventing wayward killing and destruction. Another cure is religion. Most religions in the world advocate philanthropism and forgiveness, which dissolve hatred and revenge. Consequently, education and religion working side by side can transform a barbarian into a civilized person. With wisdom and love, the human race as a whole will detest war and embrace peace.

Though the people in the world are all opposed to war, they can by no means avoid it. This is indeed a regrettable thing.

War is very terrible. Everybody hears it with fear. In a war thousands and thousands of lives will be lost and a large amount of money (will be) wasted. It brings us untold miseries and damage.

To sum up, so long as war is unavoidable, human beings cannot enjoy lasting peace. How tragical their fate is!

There are many many heros in the world, they are always memoried by people because of their braveness and kindness. When I was a child, I read a lot of stories of heros, Dong Cunrui was the one I can never forget since then.

Dong Cunrui was born in Huailai county, Hebei province, in 1929. He joined the Eighth Route Army in July 1945 and later was appointed to be a squad leader of a unit. Dong joined the Communist Party of China in March 1947. With mastery of military skills and intelligence and bravery in battlefield, his squad won the title of "Dong Cunrui Training Model Squad".

On May 25, 1948, the PLA troops triggered off the battle of assaulting Longhua city. The company that Dong Cunrui served in shouldered the task of attacking Kuomintang's garrison troops in Longhua Middle School.

Dong, as head of the blasting group, led other comrades-in-arms to blow up four blockhouses and five fortifications in a row, thus successfully fulfilling the task.

The troops were blocked in an opening area, then the second and fourth squads failed to blow up the hidden bunker for twice in a row. Then Dong came out boldly, carrying an explosive package and rushed towards the hidden bunker.

But the hidden bridge bunker was higher than his height and both sides of the bridge had no place to put the explosive package, at that moment he lifted the explosive package by left hand and pulled the fuse by the right hand without hesitation, shouted, "for a new China, forward!" with the demolition of the bunker, Dong Cunrui sacrificed his 19-year-old life and opened a way for the troops.

That's why I say Dong Cunrui is the a real hero in my mind.
